PA Act 158 Graduation Pathways

Act 158 graduation pathways are described below. Students must complete one of the graduation pathways in order to meet the Act 158 requirement for graduation.

 

Keystone Proficiency Pathway

Students who score proficient or advanced on all three required Keystone exams (Algebra, Biology, and Literature) have fulfilled their Act 158 graduation requirement. Students are allowed to retake these exams to achieve proficiency.

 

Keystone Composite Pathway

To qualify for the Keystone Composite Pathway, a student must:

  1. Have taken all three Keystone Exams

  2. Have at least one Keystone Exam score of Proficient or Advanced

  3. Have NOT scored Below Basic on any Keystone exam

  4. Have a composite (combined) score of 4452 on their Keystone exams

Any student meeting these requirements has met their Act 158 graduation requirement.

 

Career & Technical Education

To qualify for the Career & Technical Education Pathway, a student must:

  1. Have not met the requirements for Act 158 Pathways 1 or 2

  2. Have passed the GVHS course related to the Keystone exam in which proficiency was not attained

  3. Meet one of the following:

    • Completed a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program or is scheduled to complete a CTE program

    • Achieved an industry-based competency certification

    • Readiness for continued engagement in Career and Technical Education (CTE) Concentrator program of study

Any student meeting these requirements has met their Act 158 graduation requirement.

 

Alternative Assessment Pathway

To qualify for the Alternative Assessment Pathway, a student must:

  1. Have not met the requirements for Act 158 Pathways 1, 2, or 3

  2. Have passed the GVHS course related to the Keystone exam in which proficiency was not attained

  3. Meet one of the following:

    • Attainment of one alternative assessment score or better: ACT (21), ASVAB AFQT (31), PSAT/NMSQT (970), or SAT (1010)

    • Attainment of Gold Level or better on ACT WorkKeys

    • Attainment of 3 or better on AP Exam(s) related to each Keystone content area in which less than Proficient

    • Attainment of 4 or better on IB Exam(s) related to each Keystone content area in which less than Proficient

    • Successful completion of concurrent (dual enrollment) course(s) related to each Keystone content area in which less than Proficient

    • Successful completion of a pre-apprenticeship program

    • Acceptance into 4yr Institution of Higher Education (IHE) for college-level coursework

Any student meeting these requirements has met their Act 158 graduation requirement.

 

Evidence-Based Pathway

To qualify for the Evidence-Based Pathway, a student must:

  1. Have not met the requirements for Act 158 Pathways 1, 2, 3, or 4

  2. Have passed the GVHS course related to the Keystone exam in which proficiency was not attained

  3. Collected three pieces of evidence from the following:

    ONE or more must come from the following seven

    • Attainment of 630 or better on any SAT Subject Test

    • Attainment of Silver Level or better on ACT WorkKeys

    • Attainment of 3 or better on any AP Exam

    • Attainment of 3 or better on any IB Exam

    • Successful completion of any concurrent or postsecondary course

    • Industry-recognized credentialization

    • Acceptance into an other-than-4yr Institution of Higher Education (IHE) for college-level coursework

    No more than TWO can come from the following five

    • Attainment of Proficient or Advanced on any Keystone Exam

    • Successful completion of a service-learning project

    • Letter guaranteeing full-time employment or military enlistment

    • Completion of an internship, externship, or cooperative education program

    • Compliance with NCAA Division II academic requirements

Any student meeting these requirements has met their Act 158 graduation requirement.
